"Oh My Fucking God" were the first words to come into my mind at the Strapping Young Lad concert in Melbourne, Australia. It was by far the best concert I have ever been to in my life. The music was loud as hell, yet melodic and clear. I nearly died at the front row, I had multiple surfers land on me, my neck is still aching along with the rest of my body, my ears are still ringing. All that means is that I had the time of my life.
Byron and Devin. Devin's hair was in the can.SYL did all the songs from the City album except "Room 429." From Heavy As A Really Heavy Thing he had done "S.Y.L," "In The Rainy Season" and "Happy Camper." Devin reacted with the crowed really well, I could tell that he really appreciated everyone being there, and the crowed had no problem showing Devin how much they liked him and his band. Gene's drumming was spot on, double bass all the way. The guitars were killer, by Devin himself and Jed.
Jed Simon, aka El Smooché.When the show finished, Devin thanked everyone for being there before leaving the stage. When the band left the stage, all hell broke loose. "WE WANT MORE !!! WE WANT MORE !!!" So, the band, due to popular demand, did "S.Y.L", "In The Rainy Season" and "Oh My Fucking God" again.
Gene Hoglan, a mountain of a drummer.Earlier that day, Strapping Young Lad did an instore appearance where I was lucky enough to meet Devin and have my photo taken with him. Also I had all my CD's signed and I received a signed poster. They were all so friendly, especially Devin. In conclusion, the concert was a class act by a class band. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves melodic/industrial/brutal/metal with unbelievable vocals. - Tommi J.C.
