Why is Spectral from Lunar Reign a fag?
This issue has been closed for some time now. I will only say that all of Lunar Reign are a bunch of shit talking pussies with no conviction. The main reason I
stand against them is their constant attacks on Cryptic Winds, a band who holds more honor and conviction than Lunar Reign could ever hope to possess.
According to the Cicatrix bio, you were "removed" from the National Totalitarian Front. Why? What happened?
The Cicatrix bio is full of fucking old information and I'm very unhappy with this. The NTF existed close to 3 years ago and has nothing to do with the current scene.
As I am sure you have heard, Paul Ledney released another Havohej disc and is supposedly reforming Profanatica. Have you heard new material from either
act? What do you think of it, if so?
I have yet to hear anything from either, though I am told the new Havohej is in a similar vein to Black Perversion and the Unholy Darkness... 7 inch which sounds positive. This is an
exciting time, to see ancient kults like Havohej rise from the ashes and others such as Grand Belial’s Key and Demoncy become very active again. These are bands that were around
when most were shitting their diapers at the thought of a new Tesla album.
The Weltmacht album has been "coming soon" from Elegy Records for ages now. When will it actually be released?
Your guess is as good as mine on this issue. There's been so many fucking delays and problems that I'm prepared just to release it via Blood Fire Death records. The LP version will be
available through Ma Kaharu in a month. I know there was a tape version done by some scumbag in Europe, but neither Akhenaten nor myself has seen any copies.
So though Misanthropic Bloodhymns was recorded, it will never see the light of day? What, specifically, about that release are you unhappy with?
The fact that it sucked could be one issue. It was really horrid sounding, the drummer, whom I've used before in other sessions, couldn't follow the music at all and played like a
fucking retard. I never even finished this session and the label whom were to release it put constant pressure for results, which burned me out of the whole process entirely.
Krieg has been particularly prolific of late, with the release of The Church, the Kult of Azazel release, the Forgotten Secrets demo, split 7 inches with Lust and Judas Iscariot...
Most of which are older sessions. Forgotten Secrets is the tape version of The Church which also includes the song from the split with Judas. These songs were all written in 1999 but
I was unable to finish them until late 2000/early 2001. The split with Kult ov Azazel is actually tracks taken from the second Krieg full length. I hate those sessions myself, they
represent a low point in my life and no label would fucking touch them or any of my music until USBM became a catch phrase.
A number of recordings are mentioned on your web site, including Under the Forgotten Fullmoon, The Black Plague, Destruction Ritual - will these still be released?
Under... is actually the decent tracks from Misanthropic... but the label flaked on me so I canceled the release. The Black Plague will be released through Warhammer records this
summer and will include all of my demos. Destruction Ritual is a constant work in progress, who knows when it will see completion. It's taken me close to three years to finish it.
"Sono il Scherno" was another recording you were working on, apparently tracks 6-10 from the Kult of Azazel split were taken from it. Was that the full
recording or is there additional material?
Yes, but nothing worth saving.
Of all the recordings/releases you have done, which are you most happy with? Which least happy with?
I find a lot of personal dissatisfaction with every piece of
music I have written except for the tracks on the four way split SpikeKult records released last year and the tracks for the recent demo sessions. Many aspects of my older music irritates me since
I know they could have been worked to a more successful application. Pathetic really.
You have developed a powerful distaste for the USBM scene in general. Why?
Because it's a weak scene full of backstabbers, whores and cunts who have nothing else better to do than to talk shit and try to start fights. Half the scene here feel the need to
involve themselves in these "unholy" groupings and "pagan brotherhoods" which are nothing more than clubs for insecure fags.
What bands from the USBM scene do you feel are still worthwhile?
Plenty actually. To name some I would start with Noctuary, Black Witchery, Bloodstorm, Absu, Abazagorath and could name for some time. There are a lot of strong bands and
individuals in this scene which make it worth supporting. I know this sounds like a contradiction to what I said earlier, but any band with ancient spirit and true conviction gets my support.
The Judas Iscariot performance at the TX festival was very impressive. What are your thoughts on the performance in retrospect?
In retrospect I should have nailed the blond bartender.
Krieg performed the following year. Were you happy with the performance? Was that Kreig's first (or last) show? What was the lineup?
Well, there's a lot of things I can complain about but it wouldn't solve any of the problems. I had a group of fucking die hards to back me, which was great. But overall I think the
atmosphere was lacking, being that we played when the fucking sun was shining into the club, and the vocals sucked serious cock. The lineup was Necron and Blackthorn from
Thornspawn and Sabazios from Lust. All true warriors, my eternal thanks for their help. Krieg will play our second show at the Blood Fire Death fest this October.
Did anything materialize with the act Devotee you were involved in? What is the current status?
Deceased. No one wanted to touch it because the sound was very raw and we didn't play very trendy styled black metal. I guess in a few years when we sign to Virgin or
Elektra some schmuck will want to press it to CD. The demo itself was limited to 12 copies. Black metal in the old vein, very killer shit to play, too bad we never followed through
really. We've done three different reunions to try to capture the old spirit but they always fail.
The songs on The Church MCD originally comprised the Forgotten Secrets demo, correct (with the exception of the second version of "To Wander the Stars" with Teloc
Coraxo)? Why did you decide to release them under the title of The Church on the MCD as opposed to Forgotten Secrets?
Being under the influence of a dozen pints of ale was definitely a factor in naming the mcd. The idea for the name came to me while watching the Dario Argento film The
Church, which, in essence, is Demons 3 (and features the highly fuckable Asia Argento) I took the name for the mcd because of the general aesthetic that the music gave off was
that of a ritualistic demonic aura, which is the main basis for the film. Kind of a generic reason I guess, but it suits me and the music which is all I ever care about.
How does working with Duane Timlin compare to Teloc Coraxo? Do you prefer one's performance over the other? Timlin seems to be a much cleaner drummer,
based on their performances on the respective demos.
Duane actually shows up when I ask him to, a concept that never
caught on with any of my other drummers in the past. He didn't even need to listen to the music, he was able to play on feeling which was fucking incredible.
What one song do you feel is most indicative of what you hope to accomplish with Krieg?
I can nail it to two songs, "Destruction Ritual" from the Judas split and "End of Time" from the first album. Both songs were
very challenging to write and record, though they are simple to play. Both possess me with hatred like nothing else can, they are the anthems to which I'd wish to be known for.
You've had a few permanent members come and go, but for the last few recordings you have stuck with session players. Do you have any intentions to find permanent members again?
Not really. I may work with some guys over and over, but they will always remain session members since no one but myself has any control in the writing process. It's a lot easier
that way, to be able to work by myself and let my vision grow.
